Band History

Nan Hwa Secondary School Band was formed in the year 1977 by the former Principal of SMJK Nan Hwa, Mr. Su Jee Hor. Back then, we started with only a small storeroom located in the school hall as the band room to store their instruments. The 54-piece wind band can only practice in the school hall and in different corners the school compound.

Throughout These Years

In these 33 years, we are grateful to have been under the coaching of a few dedicated and experienced coaches. Since 1981, we were very blessed to have Mr Tan Kan Thiam coaching us voluntarily, introducing new instruments and music pieces; sharing his knowledge experience with us. Under the coaching and commitment, the Nan Hwa band evolved, improving in both the members’ quality, variety of instruments and also infrastructures. In 1999, we were finally able to have an air-conditioned, sound proof band room.
