Passing Out Ceremony 2009

Once again, the time for merry making and music expression is here, for it is the 30th Annual Passing-Out Concert

Ceremony. As fast as it may be, the last rehearsal for the graduating members ended yesterday at 11:30am, during

the final preparation for the concert.
December 19th, at 6:00pm, the band room started to get crowded as the members prepare their uniforms and

equipment. The girls were especially busy with their hairdressing while the boys lend some muscle for the last-

minute shifting and arrangement of the hall.

Before long, parents and supporters started to fill our hall. We even had the honour to have members of the SMJK

Ayer Tawar band to be our guest for the night.
The event officially started at 8pm with a speech given by Mr Oi, Chairman of Teachers and Parents Association

who gave some very good advice to the members. Later, Merit Award was presented to the graduating members

followed by the Excellent Service Award, presented to members who contributed heavily to the band.

The concert itself started at 8:45pm, with the C group of the band performing first, followed by the A group and

ending with the full band performance.
The songs list:
C group –
Newcastle Overture - John O'Reilly
Cimarron Overture - Mark Williams
Full Band -
Santa's Christmas Symphony -
Moon on the Ruined Castle - Rentaro Taki
A group -
Folk Song Suite, Movement 1 - Ralph Vaughan Williams
The Sound of Music Medley - Naohiro Iwai.

The event ended at 9:30pm, and tea was served. Members took the opportunity during this time to take photos and

give presents to their graduating members.

It sure was a memory filled day, being the last performance for most of the graduating members, the celebrations,

blood and sweat of everyone to pull the event through was well worth it. In addition to many things to be merry

about apart from Christmas, the Nan Hwa Band Lower Brass section is very happy to welcome new members into

the group, which are the Yamaha Model 202 Marching Tubas, which arrived yesterday.

On behalf the members below form 4, I wish the graduating members a happy graduation, and to everyone else who

is reading, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
