NATCOMP Preliminary 2010

 

 

Excitement and tension filled the air as the Nan Hwa Marching Band was getting ready for their big challenge in NATCOMP Preliminary Round, North Zone 2 which was held at SMJK Nan Hwa on the 25th of June 2010.

7.30am- Band members arrived and started to get on busy with preparations for this big day. Tunics, shoes, hats and instruments were in order and ready for the show.

8am- A quick body warm-up was conducted by the band members to ensure that they were all pump up and in a good state for the show. After that, time to get those lips warmed-up for brass and wind players as they start off their tuning sessions. Percussionist get their hands busy and colour guaards with their flags waving.

8.30am- A quick run-through was carried after that as spectators, students, teachers, parents, and alumni started arriving the school. The other competing school which was SMJK AYER TAWAR arrived too. Judges arrived shortly after.

9am- NATCOMP Preliminary Round , North Zone 2 officially started as the registrations of the school bands were over and the sequence was drawn. The air around was filled with tension and everyone was nervous as this was their first competition for 2010. Band members gathered in the band room for a brief talk and getting their heads in the game and spirit raised as they shout out for ENERGY! SPIRIT! and TEAMWORK!

10.20am- Finally the long awaited show for Nan Hwa Marching Band started along with the cheers from the crowd and they marched into the field proudly as the arrival of the band was announced. After taking their places, the show started off with the trumpet solo. The theme of the show was based on an Egyptian theme from the movie "The Prince Of Egypt."

10.30am- The 10 minutes of performance ended with the applauses and cheers from the crowds. The band members had done the best they can although they were nervous and exhausted. The performance wasn't perfect and a mistakes were seen but hopes were given that they can do better and achieve a higher level and the most important of all, learn from their mistakes.

11am- The judges have the results on hand and everyone was gathered in the school hall for the announcement of the result. Everyone was anxious to know the results and the band members were feeling a bit scared too. After a speech from the chief judge, many important and useful facts were given and hopes to build a better marching band in Malaysia.

The results were finally announced and Nan Hwa Marching Band achieved the score of 66.80. The currant ranking for NATCOMP preliminary round are as follow:

SMJK Nan Hwa Marching Band is currently ranked in number 3 and hopes for the opportunity to be entitled in the top 10 to get a second chance to improve and show out the best they can in the coming NATCOMP 2010 Grand Finals.
